SPACE HOTEL

A Barcelona architect and entrepreneur is planning to offer travellers a room with one hell of a view.

Thousands of years before the great explorers crossed the oceans, daring humans ventured from the shores of terra firma in fragile crafts, braving the whims of natural forces. Without these first voyagers those who tested the waters, so to speak the technology and capacity to cross great expanses would never have been developed. There would have been no Columbus, no Vasco de Gama, no Magellan. Most say that it is our destiny to explore, that there is some part of the human genome that compels a substantial portion of our species to climb the highest mountain, or go the greatest distance. In effect, we strive for or, at the very least, admire the superlative in ourselves. Now that the entire Earth’s surface has been visited by Homo Sapiens, with the exception of the deepest ocean trenches, any human who has inherited the explorer’s instinct must turn upward, toward the stars. Aquesta oferta és la primera que ha estat concebuda de forma global, ja que inclou des del trasllat des del lloc on resideix el turista fins a l’illa del Carib, els en trenaments necessaris per una estada en òrbita, el vol fins a l’hotel i l’estada durant tres nits en la Galactic Suite. Per completar aquesta oferta, els turistes que decideixin passar uns dies a l’espai també participaran en experiments científics.”

A quienes las vacaciones de este verano le hayan sabido a poco pueden empezar a pensar en algún viaje espacial. No es algo que esté al alcance de la mayoría de economías, pero como los plazos de puesta en marcha no son inmediatos, hay tiempo para ir ahorrando. Imaginen, por ejemplo, una aventura espacial que culmina con tres noches en un hotel orbital con ingravidez y vistas sobre la Tierra. FLY ME TO THE MOON: SPACE HOTEL SEES 2012 OPENING

“Galactic Suite”, the first hotel planned in space, expects to open for business in 2012 and would allow guests to travel around the world in 80 minutes. Its Barcelona -based architects say the space hotel will be the most expensive in the galaxy, costing $4 million for a three- day stay.
During that time guests would see the sun rise 15 times a day and use Velcro suits to crawl around their pod rooms by sticking themselves to the walls like Spiderman.
Company director Xavier Claramunt says the three-bedroom boutique hotel’s joined up pod structure, which makes it look like a model of molecules, was dictated by the fact that each pod room had to fit inside a rocket to be taken into space. “It’s the bathrooms in zero gravity that are the biggest challenge,” says Claramunt. “How to accommodate the more intimate activities of the guests is not easy.” Continue reading →
