THE BARCELONA COMPANY EQUIP XAVIER CLARAMUNT SIGNS CONTRACT FOR BUILDING 220 METRES HIGH IN CHINA

The “Flamenco Towers” will be situated in the new Central Business District in Hangzhou, south of Shanghai

The building will change the Hangzhou skyline and will become the city’s tallest construction

Barcelona-based architects EQUIP Xavier Claramunt have designed a building 220 metres high, which will be constructed in the new Central Business District in Hangzhou, a city south-west of Shanghai. Baptised the “Flamenco Towers”, the new building will cover an area of 125,000 square metres and will feature a hotel, apartments and offices.
The building’s unique twisting shape inspired its name, “Flamenco Towers”, after the Andalusian dance. It will stand in the Binjiang district of Hangzhou, situated along the southern edge of the River Qiantang. The city’s government has drawn up an ambitious urban development project for the area along the river’s banks with the aim to reducing congestion in the old city caused by urban growth.  The new urban front along the south bank will also include another district, Xiaoshan, one of the seven most prosperous areas in the country.  Once completed, this building will change the city’s skyline and will become the tallest construction in the region.
The maroon and gold building will be built on a 10,000 square-metre area, where the architecture company also plans to build four smaller towers, several parking facilities, a shopping mall and other auxiliary buildings. Work will start after the summer and is planned to take two years.
The Flamenco Towers project is the most important venture the Barcelona-based company has undertaken in Asia to date and symbolises the start of a new era where this team of architects pledges its commitment to constructing high-rise buildings, preferably designed to house hotel establishments.
